英文エッセイの構造

Structuring of Essay

 

1. タイトル Title/ Question
Every essay title contains an actual, or implied question. The whole of your essay must focus on the title and address that question.
2. 紹介 Introduction

Explain what the essay is going to do.
 Explain how you understand the question.
 Identify issues that you are going to explore.
 Give definitions if it helps clarify your position.
 Give a brief outline of how you will deal with each issue, and in which order.
Length – about 10%.

 


3.議論を展開する 理由付ける 

Develop your argument or line of reasoning

 

Paragraph 1
 This covers the first thing your intro said you were going to address.
 The first sentence introduces the main idea of the paragraph.
 Following sentences develop the topic of the paragraph. Include relevant examples, details, evidence, quotations, references.
 Lead up to the next paragraph.

 イントロで述べた、これから取り組む内容について扱う

 最初の一文は段落の中でも重要な考えを書く

 続いて、段落のトピックを展開して書く

 (関連する例、具体、証拠、引用、参考を含める)

 次の段落で書くことを紹介する

 

Paragraph 2 and subsequent paragraphs
 The first sentence links the paragraph to the previous one and introduces the main idea of the paragraph.
 Other sentences develop the paragraph’s topic.

 最初の一文は前述の段落とリンクさせた文を書く。そのパラグラフにおける重要な考えを書く。他の文はトピックを展開して書く。


4. 結論 Conclusion
Include no new material.
 Summarise your argument and the main themes.
 State your general conclusions
 Make it clear why these conclusions are important.
 In your last sentence, sum up your argument very briefly, linking it to the title.

新しい内容はもう書かない!

 自分の主張とメインテーマを要約する

 総合的な結論を述べる

 なぜこの結論が大切なのかを書く

 とても簡潔に自分の主張を最後の一文にタイトルと結びつけてまとめる。


5. 参考文献と書誌 References or bibliography

Alphabetically list all the books, journals, articles and websites you have referred to in the essay.
In the bibliography list relevant texts, including those you read but did not refer to in the essay.
